The Power of Storytelling
Welcome to the first edition of The Uprising for 2026!
Over the past week, Iâve had the chance to connect with a number of colleagues and friends - leaders across industries, each navigating their own challenges and wins. One thread kept emerging in our conversations: the universal power of storytelling.
We shared stories. We laughed. Some of us even teared up. And through it all, we kept circling back to one truth: if you want to lead, scale, or influence, you need to know how to tell a powerful story.
Storytelling isnât just a soft skill. Itâs a strategic one.
In Ready to Rise, I remind participants that âthe stories you tell about yourself and your vision matter more than you think.â Because whether youâre in a boardroom, pitching for investment, or leading your team through change - your story is what creates trust, connection, and clarity.

So, how do you strengthen your storytelling muscle?
Here are a few guiding principles we explore inside the program:
1. Anchor in Authenticity
The best stories are real ones. They stand up to scrutiny and resonate because theyâre grounded in lived experience. Your audience - whether one or one thousand - can sniff out spin a mile away. Vulnerability isnât weakness. Itâs what builds connection. (Lesson 5: Leading with Your Strengths is a great place to revisit this.)
2. Keep It Tight
A great story doesnât meander. It lands. Learn to spot the heart of the story - whatâs the moment of change, insight, or humour? Deliver it with intention. In leadership, attention is a currency, so donât waste it.
3. Ditch the Ego
If every story you share stars you as the hero, youâre missing the point. Effective storytelling lifts the room. Itâs not about being the smartest or most impressive. Itâs about reflecting insight, shared experience, or a moment of clarity that others can grow from too.
4. Study the Craft
Pay attention to great keynote speakers or leaders you admire. What makes their storytelling magnetic? Is it humour, vulnerability, or structure? Learning to lead with story is like training a muscle - the more you practice, the stronger it becomes.
5. AI Can Support, Not Replace
Sure, use AI tools to help shape or refine your narrative. But donât let them write your story for you. The magic lives in your voice, your experience, and most importantly, your truth.
Hereâs my challenge to you this week:
Pick one story from your career - one that shaped you, changed your direction, or taught you something critical - and share it. Share it with your team, a client, your community, or with me. And observe what shifts.
Iâd love to hear your favourite business story - and how sharing it created connection, clarity, or results.
