Feeling the mid-January Blues?
January often begins with a burst of excitement - new year, fresh energy, big plans. But by the time mid-month hits, has that momentum already started to fade?

I’m in the UK this week, where the third Monday of January is infamously dubbed Blue Monday - the “most depressing day of the year.” The Christmas lights are packed away, the days are short, grey, and cold, and spring still feels far off.
Now, in Australia we don’t have those seasonal excuses, but even with the sun shining, it’s common to feel like the year is already blending into the last. That shiny “new year energy” can start to dull fast.
So how do you reset when nothing around you feels especially new?
Here’s a strategy I use: Pick one thing you’re going to do differently. Just one.
Maybe it’s a project that’s been on your list forever, constantly bumped down by “urgent” tasks. Diarise time for it. Set a clear goal and define the steps you’ll take to move it forward.
Or maybe 2026 is the year you finally upskill in a high-impact area.(Hint: if AI isn’t already a clear part of your business strategy, this is your sign to make it one.) Whatever you choose, make a plan, schedule it, and track your progress.
Often, that one intentional shift is all it takes to reignite your momentum and reframe your mindset.
Need inspiration? Try this:
· Identify the biggest problem you’re facing - or the task you most avoid.
· Ask your AI assistant of choice to help reframe it.
· If you’re not sure where to start, ask: “What are the top three ways AI will impact my industry in 2026, and how can I prepare?”
The answers might surprise you - and spark that creative thinking you’ve been missing.
So what’s the one thing you’ll commit to doing differently this year?
